QUESTION: I've been reading quite a bit about EMF's and how you should sleep with your head away from the wall which is different than what I have learned in this course. Even with an EMF protector, these reports say keep your head away from walls due to all of the wiring. Can you please let me know your thoughts?

ANSWER: There is a tendency in life to take things to an extreme. The truth is ... in our cities we live in saturated fields of EM energy. So, whatever EM device you can use to reduce the effects of low frequency radiation around you, I highly recommend doing.

If you do not have a solid or thick headboard, then moving your bed away from the wall 5-6 inches is helpful as well. I also recommend adding "baby" plugs to all electric sockets not in use throughout your home. In addition, a power/surge control that you can turn off at night for electrical devices in your bedroom and office is helpful as well.

However, short of turning OFF all circuit breakers at night and building a solid concrete wall around and above your home to shield you, EM energy is unavoidable. Thus, I still advocate sleeping with your head near a solid wall in one of your best Feng Shui directions!

QUESTION: I had a fall out with a close friend a few years ago. We barely communicate still and never get together any more. What Feng Shui cure can I use to rebuild our friendship (especially the communication part). Thank you.

ANSWER: In Feng Shui there is no "separation" in ENERGY from animate or inanimate objects, including human beings. So, even if you feel you have been wronged, I would start by reaching out with an apology. An apology is like FORGIVENESS - it frees you as well as the other person from the illusion of "separation," which in turn allows people to come together in truth.. LOVE. Love does not judge or condemn; love opens up endless possibilities.

ANSWER: The two of you are compatible - like twin flames; however, the house is the element Earth and may put out your Fire, if not remedied.

QUESTION: Where do I put unpaid bills in the house?

ANSWER: In WESTERN Feng Shui bills can be kept in the KNOWLEDGE gua area of your home or office. In COMPASS Feng Shui it's the NE gua area or section. In Classical Feng Shui, the unseen energy determines the best placement for unpaid bills.

QUESTION: Which is stronger: the gua or the structure, that is, if a person has 2 choices between a room that is in a stronger location with a sitting or facing problem or a second room with sitting and facing strengths, but in a weak area for the gua, which is preferable?

ANSWER: For clarification - the "sitting direction" of a building is the most important consideration in Classical Feng Shui; it can affect you physically, mentally, emotionally. socially and/or financially in either positive or negative ways. Thus if the "sitting direction" is one of your favorable directions, it lessens the effect of everything else related to one's floor plan.

If an individual is able to sleep and work in a favorable gua area it's definitely a PLUS as well. HOWEVER, given the the choice of a favorable GUA verses using one's best directions for work and sleep, irrespective of the sitting direction of a structure, I advocate honoring supportive directions first and foremost.

QUESTION: Why have I not sold a home in over 3 years? I have prepared contracts and none of them CLOSED! I AM PERPLEXED & BEWILDERED LIKE SOMETHING IS NOT IN ORDER AND I NEED HELP!!!

ANSWER: Without knowing your "personal" Feng Shui Element - the inherent weaknesses and strengths - many factors could come into play. However, I would start first with the Feng Shui of your home and garden, as you take this energy with you wherever you go. Next, consider working a defined business plan. I find that REALTORS without a vision and mission fail, time and again, while their peers who have them .. SUCCEED.

QUESTION: Is it possible to Feng Shui a gaming center located within a grocery store? The owner of the gaming center does not own the building or the land just leases the space that the gaming center is located in.

ANSWER: A signed lease is the equivalent "energy" of ownership in Feng Shui, thus the answer is YES.

QUESTION: What is the optimum placement or location for kitchens and bathrooms in a home?

ANSWER: The general answer to your question is that kitchens and bathrooms should not be located in the heart of a house. However, in Classical Feng Shui, depending on the stars (numbers) located at the heart of your home, it may actually be beneficial to have one or the other located in the center gua.

QUESTION: Is it okay to have the master bedroom downstairs and the other bedrooms upstairs?

ANSWER: If the bedrooms upstairs are strictly used for offices and guest rooms, it's not a problem. However, if childrens bedrooms are upstairs, I recommend that you ask yourself, first, if you feel comfortable with your loved ones out of sight, and whether or not they feel SAFE with you downstairs.

QUESTION: My bedroom has odd angles and corners, is this okay?

ANSWERS: Typically rooms like this collect negative or sha chi energy and should be avoided as bedrooms.

FENG SHUI AFFIRMATION: I follow Feng Shui guidelines to insure health, happiness and safety for myself and for all my loved ones.

QUESTION: I discovered that I have a 'reversed house' in Feng Shui. Does this mean I have to reverse all the colors so that they fall in the right places? For instance, the front right side (mentor/travel) is currently in the East. Do I transpose it to the back left side where Wealth normally would be? How do I place the colors correctly? Please help...

ANSWER: A reversed house is one of four types of houses in Classical Feng Shui. It has nothing to do with Western Feng Shui ... i.e. colors, wealth gua, etc. A reversed house is based on a study called Lo-Shu Flying Stars; it's a house that does not support PEOPLE or MONEY.

FENG SHUI AFFIRMATION: I trust that God and the Universe will protect my home and family until I learn more about the UNSEEN energy of Feng Shui.

QUESTION: Dear Suzee, my best direction is East. Should I still sleep with my head pointing to that direction, even though it is afflicted with the 5 star? Should I cure the East in my bedroom and still sleep pointing to that direction?

ANSWER: It's actually the EAST GUA area of your home that requires the remedy; however, as a secondary precaution it doesn't hurt to remedy the East area of your bedroom as well. Also, since you have three other good directions that nurture and empower you, you might try sleeping in one of them this year instead.

FENG SHUI AFFIRMATION: I sleep like a baby. I awake rested and rejuvenated ... ready to take on each new day.

QUESTION: If a house has an indoor courtyard in the middle of a house is that good or bad Feng Shui and how do you remedy it?

ANSWER: It depends on which Feng Shui Master you ask!

The general belief is that you will have health problems related to the heart or lung region of the body, or an abundance of heartache in your life if this section is missing from your floor plan. However, in classical Feng Shui if the stars, Lo-shu stars, located at the heart of the house are not good numbers - it could actually be a blessing to have this section missing.

Also, depending on the annual energy and the current 20 year construction cycle, new solar energy can bring positive change to your life. Of course, the opposite can be true as well. Thus there is no "general" Feng Shui remedy to give without knowing the stars.

FENG SHUI AFFIRMATION:

The "visible and invisible" energy located at the heart of my home supports me physically, emotionally, mentally and financially. Solar light from the Universe re-energizes me, daily, with POSITIVE inner-chi.

QUESTION: I work for a Private Investigator. Our clients pay him for his services. These individuals can range from attorneys to insurance companies. Our problem, some of them take forever to pay. Is there something we can do to improve the odds with Feng Shui?

ANSWER: Feng Shui aside, BUSINESS is BUSINESS, and because you don't have an insurance company that you can bill for services rendered, the next best thing to do is to request 50% payment upon execution of each contract and the balance billed to a "credit card" account ...upon completion of each contract.

Also, given the nature of this business, I would "space clear and re-energize," with symbols and colors, the FAME & FORTUNE and HEALTH gua areas of the office. In addition, I suggest setting the intention that your boss's reputation exceeds the competition, and that every client he serves ... comes out smelling like a rose!

QUESTION: We have an electric company utility box in the corner of our property. What can I do to minimize the effects of this?

ANSWER: Fortunately, vegetation LOVES electricity and environmental radiation. Therefore, I would plant shrubs around the area closest to the utility box to absorb problematic energy. In addition, I recommend adding a wind chime, whirly gig or flag on the eve closest to the utility unit, to spin SHA CHI activity away from your living space.

QUESTION: Would metal walls be considered the metal or earth element? The reason I suggest earth is because the earth creates metals.

ANSWER: It's considered the METAL element.

QUESTION: I have a listing for sale with a steep driveway, freeway noise and a lot of Oak trees creating a dark house. It is a beautiful home. HELP!

ANSWER: I wish I could give you a simple fix, but there isn't one. This is when a HARD TO SELL listing consultation would benefit you and your clients immensely.

QUESTION: In your last newsletter someone asked a question about a house in a "flag lot." What is a flag lot, I never have heard the term?

ANSWER: A flag lot can best be described as the shape of an AX. The driveway or handle portion of the lot is typically long and sandwiched between adjoining lots on each side of it. The house is located at the back portion of the lot... in or near the blade section of the ax.

QUESTION: How can I find the Health part in my home. My husband and I have developed poor health and we are just in our early 60's.

ANSWER: The easiest way to describe the HEALTH GUA area or location, based on Western Ba-gua Feng Shui, is to find the "middle left" hand square of a nine square grid ....when the grid is super-imposed over the lot and/or over your floor plan.

QUESTION: Lately, it just feels that I encountered a lot of losses, such as I lost my job back in 2007, my very first pregnancy in 2009, my Dad in 2010, and last but not least I lost my second pregnancy in 2011. What I can do in Feng Shui to help me stop this madness of losses.

Unlike in the workplace where facing your best direction(s) is critically important to your success, LISTENING requires us to access a different part of the brain. Thus it's best to test which works the best for you ... personally!

QUESTION: In my house the toilet and the stairs are in the health gua. How can I fix it because I am very sick?

ANSWER: You will want to make sure both areas are kept clean, fresh and bright, which helps to "lift" ENERGY. In addition, the bathroom should have plush hand and bath towels, the toilet lid and drains kept closed and the floors, mirror, walls and carpet should be kept impeccably clean at all times.

If you suffer from a major illness or disease, all rooms of your home should mirror the same. Also, you will want to make sure your landscape is free of debris and free of dead and dying vegetation as well.

QUESTION: How do I attract a partner?

ANSWER: This is an often asked question and based on different schools, the answer is often different as well.

However, if you apply just WESTERN FENG SHUI you will want to have "pairs of things" tastefully placed in your home, office, garden and car! This will program your subconscious and conscious mind to think in terms of PARTNERSHIP.

QUESTION: Our office is located about 130 feet off the main street behind a nice rental house. There is about a 30 foot deep lawn in the front. What rules should I follow in putting up an office sign that brings people back to the office? Our office logo is red and blue. The buildings are gray with a maroon trim.

ANSWER: I would follow common sense over Feng Shui guidelines in this situation. Thus, I recommend placing the sign where it will have the most visibility!

QUESTION: How can Feng Shui help my friend keep her job if her boss is the problem?

ANSWER: It takes two to tango and two to have a problem! Therefore, I recommend that your friend ask her boss if she can schedule a time to meet in private, so that she can learn how to improve the quality of their relationship. Taking "ownership" of the problem helps to create a non-threatening meeting of the minds. Prior to the actual meeting, it's important for your friend to Feng Shui her office and desk too!

QUESTION: I live in an apartment. The front door is at the end of a hallway and faces NW. We have 2 large sliding glass doors that face SW with a view of the ocean. How do I determine how my house sits and faces?

ANSWER: It takes years of experience to determine "unique or unusual" situations like yours; however, 85 to 90% of the time the sitting direction is the "widest rear" section of a floor plan. So as a novice, if the SW wall of your unit falls into this category, then I suggest using it as the sitting direction and the opposite direction, NE, as the facing.

QUESTION: My toilet is located in the NE area of our house. What would I cure to counter this bad energy so it does not affect my career and health in this gua area?

QUESTION: Suzee, I ordered and received your 2011 Feng Shui Forecast based on Lo Shu flying stars. My question is .. are the cardinal directions the same as those of the Ba-gua.

ANSWER: If you are using a FIXED Ba-gua approach to Feng Shui the answer is yes. However, I do not adhere to this school of Feng Shui so in my opinion the simplest thing to do is to locate the cardinal and inter-cardinal directions, or gua areas, within your floor plan ... and then make the necessary remedies and enhancements to the rooms located therein.

QUESTION: I live in a townhouse facing East with my husband and daughter. Money does not seem to come in. I receive more bills all the time. We bought our house in October 1994 when it was brand new. I have a Gold Buddha with a Frog and money on his belly + a Chinese coin in his mouth ... I'm not sure where to put it in the living room for attracting money or do I need to do something else? The Energy is not functioning good? Thank you.

ANSWER: None of the items mentioned in your question have anything to do with Feng Shui, thus they cannot impact ENERGY positively or negatively, by themselves. HOWEVER, if your belief or culture from birth is based on Chinese figurines and icons, then yes ... it's possible for the mind to impact change.

QUESTION: Our home is located on a gently curved crescent with a southeast backyard. We have a huge 100' pine tree covering most of the front of the home approximately 10 -15 foot from the windows. We are considering removing this tree. Is this protection or blockage of chi energy?

ANSWER: It's BOTH; however, it creates more blocks than benefits in your life! Thus, I would not hesitate to remove the overgrown tree that is dwarfing your house. You can always create aesthetically beautiful landscape remedies for protection in its place. BUT first, make sure to listen to Feng Shui FORECAST 2011 before puncturing the earth!

QUESTION: My house is located on a curve, which has a short street containing two houses on the side of my house, which face my house. The problem is that these two houses and a house behind me leave their outside lights on, which illuminates my house. Is this good or bad?

ANSWER: Light is actually a GOOD remedy for your particular location. YANG energy - lights - counteract the negative aspects of this location and protect you and your family from misfortune!

QUESTION: How do I offset or block forces from a Y shape street fronting our house. Our house is in the corner of 2 streets. The other street produced two mini streets crossing our house.

ANSWER: A house located inside a "Y" intersection is one of the most difficult Feng Shui locations, as it chokes the mouth of Chi and typically cuts off several gua areas of the land as well. This in turn cuts off opportunity and good fortune, and can affect the health of the occupants as well

This is one of the rare occasions where I recommend placing a convex mirror on the eve of the property ... facing the inverted Y. Also, adding lights aimed away from the house helps too.

In addition, you will want to add landscaping to divert fast moving CHI (energy) away from the house. As a family, you will also want to set a "powerful" INTENTION for the land to protect all occupants inside the home as well.

QUESTION: My house is a L shape house. It doesn't have the north west part. What should I do, I need to be successful in my life (health, wealth, happiness)

ANSWER: Regardless what you have read in books, an "L" shaped property may prove to be more beneficial than disastrous! If the protruding portion is less than 50% of the width of the house, it actually creates an EXENSION of good luck. If it's more than 50%, then you have a missing corner that can be remedied with landscaping or fencing.

FENG SHUI TRUTH: A New Door Cannot Open, Until an OLD One Closes.

On the invisible plain of Feng Shui, we cannot move forward in life or open a door to new blessings and opportunities until we clear away the old.

The old can be a tragedy, loss, failure, our negative thoughts, fearful feelings, painful perceptions, or simply memories that bind us to the past.

The old can also be material gifts such as furniture, mementos, or special letters, cards and emails that we cling to.

The "old" can be as recent as 2010, or as ancient as decades past.

Knowing when to "let go," when to close a door so another one can open, is often times a painful process and decision to make.
Nonetheless, to enjoy the New Year and to benefit from all that this "new decade" holds for us, we must consciously LET GO of what no longer serves our highest good and evolution.

We are not perfect beings, but via Feng Shui we can work on perfecting our environment so that it (only) attracts compatible energy. As we space clear away the "old;" we give ourselves permission to live life in the present moment. It is in this state of grace that we experience more PEACE, HARMONY and JOY.

Also, when our environment exudes BEAUTY and BALANCE, it helps us to FORGIVE. To forgive others and to forgive ourselves ... so that we can move forward.

One always has to know when a stage comes to an end. If we insist on staying longer than the necessary time, we lose the happiness and the meaning of the other stages we have to go through.

Closing cycles, shutting doors, ending chapters – whatever name we give it, what matters is to leave in the past the moments of life that have finished.

Did you lose your job? Has a loving relationship come to an end? Did you leave your parents’ house? Gone to live abroad? Has a long-lasting friendship ended all of a sudden? You can spend a long time wondering why this has happened.

You can tell yourself you won’t take another step until you find out why certain things that were so important and so solid in your life have turned into dust, just like that. But such an attitude will be awfully stressing for everyone involved: your parents, your husband or wife, your friends, your children, your sister.

Everyone is finishing chapters, turning over new leaves, getting on with life, and they will all feel bad seeing you at a standstill.

Things pass, and the best we can do is to let them really go away.

That is why it is so important (however painful it may be!) to destroy souvenirs, move, give lots of things away to orphanages, sell or donate the books you have at home.

Everything in this visible world is a manifestation of the invisible world, of what is going on in our hearts – and getting rid of certain memories also means making some room for other memories to take their place.

Let things go. Release them. Detach yourself from them.

Nobody plays this life with marked cards, so sometimes we win and sometimes we lose. Do not expect anything in return, do not expect your efforts to be appreciated, your genius to be discovered, your love to be understood.

Stop turning on your emotional television to watch the same program over and over again, the one that shows how much you suffered from a certain loss: that is only poisoning you, nothing else.

Nothing is more dangerous than not accepting love relationships that are broken off, work that is promised but there is no starting date, decisions that are always put off waiting for the “ideal moment.”

Before a new chapter is begun, the old one has to be finished: tell yourself that what has passed will never come back.

Remember that there was a time when you could live without that thing or that person – nothing is irreplaceable, a habit is not a need. This may sound so obvious, it may even be difficult, but it is very important.

Closing cycles. Not because of pride, incapacity or arrogance, but simply because that no longer fits your life.

Shut the door, change the record, clean the house, shake off the dust.

Stop being who you were, and change into who you are.

QUESTION: How do I overcome the holiday blues at this time of the year. Am I the only one who gets down?

ANSWER: NO. It's a known fact that more than 50% of the world population experiences some form of grief or depression between November 15th and December 31st of the calendar year.

Rightfully so too.

This year alone, we have lost hundreds of thousands of lives due to natural causes, catastrophic diseases, accidents, horrific earth and sea disasters, along with loss of lives due to war.

In addition, this year, economic chaos ushered in tremendous hardship for millions of Americans and global citizens worldwide. While many people, businesses and financial institutions have prospered in phenomenal ways, others have lost ground and self-worth in countless other ways.

Unfortunately, the season IS a mixed bag of blessings and sadness for all. Nonetheless, it's the perfect time of year to be GRATEFUL to be alive, to be THANKFUL for the people in our lives, and to CHERISH the memory of those who will forever be a part of our lives. Because there is no separation in energy, every human life and every human loss affects us at a deep heart and emotional level, whether we are consciously aware of it or not. Thus why it is important to Feng Shui, and to update the Feng Shui of your home and office on an annual basis to stay in BALANCE.

QUESTION: How do I cure the bathrooms in the center of my house on the first and second floors?

ANSWER: Unfortunately, short of moving, it's usually cost prohibitive to relocate bathrooms. The best interim thing to do is to BEAUTIFY the bathrooms and keep all drains and toilet covers/lids closed.

By the way, in Classical Feng Shui, if your home is in a 20 year lock - a bathroom can actually be a good thing!

QUESTION: How do we make and keep friends?

ANSWER: How thoughtful, understanding, caring and "generous" are you with your time, actions, words and gifts?

True friends usually personify GENEROSITY in several of the above or more ways. So if you find yourself without friends or have difficulty keeping them, then you might want to examine how generous you are as a person.

QUESTION: I love your website http://www.fengshuiplaza.com/ and your e-newsletters! My question is about protection, which I believe is No. 2 (after clearing clutter) and before No. 3 (enhancements). Any suggestions for personal and property (house, office, car, RV) protection from crime and/or accidents?

ANSWER: What we hold in consciousness we usually become or become witness to ... in our lives. Thus it is important to SPACE CLEAR our fearful thoughts, weekly as well. The Feng Shui will take care of the rest!

QUESTION: We moved into a new home and in our master bedroom are closets with mirrors on them. We cannot re-design at this time. What remedies can you suggest for the time being?

ANSWER: You can cover them while you sleep or open the mirrored wardrobe closet door closest to your head to get improved restful sleep.

QUESTION: How can I overcome my financial problems?

ANSWER: I suggest reading THINK AND GROW RICH by Napoleon Hill in conjunction with the Feng Shui of your home, office and garden.

QUESTION: I am a metal snake, Kua 1, East group ... what color should my front door be - it faces east?

ANSWER: The color of a house is determined by the "sitting" direction. The color of the front door is determined by the "facing" direction. An East facing front door can be any color other than the FIRE element - RED!

QUESTION: How does one use Feng Shui where he lives if he does not own the home, but he is residing with his brother in the home that he owns?

ANSWER: If your brother does not give you permission to Feng Shui his house, then Feng Shui your room by dividing it into 9 equal guas. It's helpful to Feng Shui the rest of the property using a "vision" or white board as well.

QUESTION: My business partner and I work buying minerals (Ulexite, Manganese) and re-sell it (we export). Could you please tell me what colors should we use in our web page?

ANSWER: Since minerals come from the earth, I recommend using a "soft" earth tone background on your web pages, and then lift the chi (pop it) by using mineral and gem stone colors.

QUESTION: My garage is attached to the house but it has a separate roof and the only way to enter or exit is through the actual garage door. Would this be counted in my whole house Ba-gua?

ANSWER: The garage is included only if it cuts into the floor plan of the house. If it's totally outside the main house or floor plan, do not include it in the Ba-gua when you Feng Shui.

QUESTION: I work in a open office space with three other people. I would like to protect myself front, back and on the sides. How can I use Feng Shui to improve and protect myself?

ANSWER: Depending on the balance of elements in your office environment, I recommend cubicle dividers, tri-fold screens, tall plants and/or free standing water walls as an artful way to accomplish this goal.

QUESTION: I am an educator. I would like to ensure that I get yearly promotions at least for the next three years. How can I do that because in my work review I had always gotten performing above and beyond expectation?

ANSWER: No amount of Feng Shui can hurdle city, county, province, state and/or federal cut-backs in spending. Nonetheless, it does not hurt to set the intention for promotion in the KNOWLEDGE and FAME/FORTUNE gua areas of your office or classroom. However, for true recognition and appreciation, I would encourage you to stay educated in your field of expertise and to embrace news ways of providing the highest and best service possible to those you serve.

QUESTION: To increase my income is it better to schedule a consultation for my home or office? Can I do both?

ANSWER: More than 75% of our clients consult with me on both. However, to start, I recommend a 2 hour office/business consultation if your desire is to INCREASE your sales, income and free time now and in the future. If you are not in sales and/or you are experiencing health or relationship problems, then I would definitely start with your home first!

QUESTION: I am running a foster home, how do I attract more children?

ANSWER: The word "running" a foster home sounds more like a business than a heartfelt desire to help children. Until the opposite is true, no amount of Feng Shui can help you attract more children as your goal is in opposition to the core principles of Feng Shui.

QUESTION: Hi Suzee, I'm a divorced 50 year old woman. I already bought the cd for Mother Earth and the problem is that the only way I can place my bed is touching the east wall and I understand that this is why I have not been doing that good since I moved to this house. Please tell me what to do?

ANSWER: Simply sleep with your head at the foot of the bed, and protect yourself with a screen or footboard while you sleep. OR, move your bed to a more favorable headboard wall. Also, I recommend listening again, and again, to your element audio for other "clues" as to why you may not be doing good in life as well.

QUESTION: Dear Suzee, my house main door is situated lower than the main road. Any problem?

ANSWER: NOT ALWAYS is the best answer I can give you. It depends on environmental factors, location and the type of house you occupy in terms of Classical Feng Shui, as some homes require a mountain or higher earth on the facing side as a remedy!

QUESTION: I am renovating my house, and I need a stair to the attic/mezzanine floor, how many steps is ideal for a stairs?

ANSWER: Usually an odd number of stairs is indicated, however this depends more on "architecture and safety" than on good or bad Feng Shui!

QUESTION: My husband was born on 02/23/1949 and I was born on 09/22/1949, we are totally opposites and never get along. Please let me know if we ever will.

ANSWER: Indeed you both are very POWERFUL elements - HARD METAL and FIRE. I have a lot of couple clients' like you and your husband, and they do beautifully together once they decide on who the "main" PEACOCK in the family is going to be! Keep in mind, more than one captain of a ship usually means mutiny - so the choice to be happy or boss, is ultimately your own.

QUESTION: Hi Suzee... If there is one item you would suggest every bedroom should have to bring about perpetual good luck, happiness and joy what would it be?

ANSWER: I believe the (appropriate) use of "symbols" in Feng Shui "subliminally and visually" program our conscious and unconscious mind in POSITIVE ways. Therefore, I suggest adding "pairs of things" in bedrooms such as: 2 candles, 2 hearts, 2 birds, or two of whatever brings you JOY and HAPPINESS. Pairs represent PARTNERSHIP or JOINING... the essence of love and good fortune. Also to promote peace and prosperity, it's important to create subtle "elegance, beauty and balance" using the 5 elements, like in the lovely master bedroom photo below.

FENG SHUI TRUTH: Feng Shui is not about astrology, superstition, religion, philosophy nor is it an occult practice. Feng Shui is the study of ENERGY and how energy impacts our lives, relationships, health, listings, careers and the world at large.

If we accept the theory that we live in a Holographic Universe with no separation in "visible and invisible" energy, then we must also acknowledge and accept that fear, anger, jealousy, hatred and/or indifference towards life, our partners, and brothers and sisters on the planet - is what will be mirrored back to us.

QUESTION: The comfort room (toilet) is on the second floor of the building and underneath is my office, is that okay?

ANSWER: It is not a problem. However, the Chinese consider it bad Feng Shui to have a Kitchen located below a bathroom, as WATER puts out FIRE.

QUESTION: Due to hail damage, we have been advised to have the roof of the house replaced. When is a good time to do this year?

ANSWER: Anytime a new roof is required is a good time to replace it!

Yes, in Feng Shui there are days that are better than others, but this applies to issues such as surgery, moving dates, weddings, burials, new business ventures, weddings, ground breaking, grand openings, buying property, signing contracts, worship, business opportunities etc.

QUESTION: No matter what I do I am stuck. I can't seem to move forward, and you say money is not important, but without it I can't move forward - I feel like I am waiting for something, that there is more to do. I feel an anxiety that is just there and nothing happens. What can I do to find out whatever it is I am supposed to do?

ANSWER: On the contrary, money is VERY important - none of us can live without it! However, the LOVE OF MONEY or chasing after money, is what causes one to feel anxiety and fear. It's also the tell-tale sign of a "controlling" personality.

On the other hand, people who meditate, journal, pray and set intention on a daily basis have learned to LET GO. It's here, in the gap between our thoughts, that we are able to tap into the answers we seek ... within.

QUESTION: In the past two months I have received 3 water fountains (all for my birthday!!). My question is where should I put them to bring maximum effect in Feng Shui?

ANSWER: Generally speaking if you are the WOOD or WATER element, several fountains in an exposed environment can nourish you. On the other hand, if you are the element METAL or FIRE too many fountains can deplete your CHI, and if you are an out of balance EARTH element person, it can sometimes destroy your life force, as your body energy has to work overtime to dam the water. Again, LESS IS MORE unless you know more Feng Shui!

QUESTION: Where do you put religious icons? Such as Rosary Beads, prayers and statues of saints? I see you mentioned not to put them in the bedroom so where do you put them? Walk in closet? Kitchen?

ANSWER: Yes, those areas will work; however, I would also focus on specific gua areas of your home and land such as the SPRITUALITY & KNOWLEDGE and HEALTH & FAMILY guas.

QUESTION: I have been working at a firm for the last 4 years as a manager, but I have noticed being friendly to my staff has affected my position they are not respecting me and they are trying to over throw me from my position. Please advise!

ANSWER: It's important to be supportive and flexible with co-workers. However, it's equally important for you to honor your position; once you do, your staff and co-workers will too! QUESTION: Below our bathroom, on the second floor is the first step of our stairs. I just want to know if it is good or bad?

ANSWER: It is not a problem unless the ceiling leaks! :)

QUESTION: I'm thinking about putting a water fountain by the front door of my business. It will be to the left of the door as you walk in. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what I should be cognitive of?

ANSWER: When applying Western principles to Feng Shui, I find it doesn't matter where the placement of water is made. However, when incorporating CLASSICAL remedies and enhancements to a property it is an important consideration as to whether or not water is recommended. This school of Feng Shui is called Lo-Shu Flying Stars, and requires a Feng Shui consultation to determine whether or not the water element is harmful or beneficial to the occupants.

QUESTION: We have a study in the centre of our home. Is this okay?

ANSWER: It's perfectly okay.

QUESTION: I am building a house on a wetlands conservation area. Which direction is best to locate the master bedroom?

ANSWER: The best answer is not simple; it actually requires a ONE hour phone consultation to determine. However, for starters, you can learn some very important information that you can apply right away by listening to your Feng Shui Element. QUESTION: Which is most important, the direction I face or not having my back to my office door?

ANSWER: I know I go against 90% of the books written on the subject, but I sincerely believe the direction one faces while working is more important. Remedies or cures can be done to correct having one's back to a door, but little can be done to stop the loss of POSITIVE "magnetic" energy!

QUESTION: How do I know what I buy from the market are genuine Feng Shui elements?

QUESTION: I intend to have a built in under my staircase for my shoe cabinet but my staircase is in the middle of the house which I understand is not so good Feng Shui.

ANSWER: As far as placement goes, it's neither good or bad to have a cabinet for shoes located at the heart of the house. Although a staircase in the heart of the house is considered "bad" in Western Feng Shui, 20% of the time it is considered GOOD placement in Classical Feng Shui!

QUESTION: How can I get positive energy into my house? Where do I hang my good luck money charm for my house?

ANSWER: Positive energy accumulates and expands in an "uncluttered" environment, so again - LESS IS MORE. As for MONEY luck "charms and symbols," in Western Ba-gua Feng Shui you will want to place them in the WEALTH gua, whereas in Classical Feng Shui they are not used at all.

QUESTION: When you say the headboard needs to face west for Soft Metal, does that mean if I were to sit up in bed, I'd be facing west?

ANSWER: No. It refers to the headboard wall, or when lying down in bed it's the direction the top of your head or scalp faces.

ANSWER: I'm laughing out loud as I think about how much better off all of our lives would be if banks and financial institutions, along with Wall Street, believed in Feng Shui!!!

I'm afraid you are at the mercy of your bank. However, you might want to send them a bouquet of colorful flowers to help bring the environment into balance! Also, it doesn't hurt to set the INTENTION for a thorough, fast and beneficial closing on your loan. This intention should be placed in the "spirituality and knowledge" gua of your home and office.

QUESTION: My husband is a hunter of deer. In our home, on an interior wall facing south direction, there are 2 mounted deer heads, as well as a great horned owl and a fish. Do these mounted animals/mammals have a good or bad effect on our home?

ANSWER: Anything dead or dying looking, in one's environment, is considered "bad" Feng Shui. Also because we are ONE with everything in the Universe, a dead animal/mammal hanging on a wall does not bring us "inner" peace, harmony or joy - unless the viewer is the hunter.

Nonetheless, I realize people who hunt or kill fish for fun and/or show, do not view things in this light or may not even be consciously aware of how unnerving dead animals may be to loved ones and/or visitors. Thus, if your husband feels nourished and empowered by this placement, at least he picked the best wall for it, as SOUTH represents the fire element of which animals are part of ...!

QUESTION: How do I Feng Shui my house, the basement is small and very cluttered as I just moved and have no place to store all my things? Also my bedroom is small and very cluttered.

ANSWER: The starting point of Feng Shui begins with the removal of clutter. If you do not have space, it's either time to LET GO of things or store them off-site, so you can begin to Feng Shui your space from A to Z.

ANSWER: There could be many reasons for your disappointment outside of Feng Shui. Please keep in mind that Feng Shui is not a magic cure all. Nonetheless, it can IMPROVE the prospects of many things, including conception.

From a Feng Shui perspective, you will want to honor your BEST HEALTH direction when making "whoopee". Also, conception is easier in the SE and WEST gua areas of your home in 2010. In addition, you will want to make sure that the CHILDREN and FAMILY GUA areas are kept clean, beautiful and secure inside and outside your home, and symbols of "baby/children" items are placed in these areas as well.

QUESTION: How can I increase my fame corner? I am a writer and need to enhance this part of my life. I need a book deal and a free flowing way to write.

ANSWER: FIRE or the color RED along with awards, or letters of recognition, are the proper placement for the FAME & FORTUNE gua area of your home and office. Doors and windows are important in Feng Shui. They represent a "parent's mouth and a child's voice." If windows (childrens voices) out number doors (parents mouths) in a home, arguments among siblings and adults can arise. Also, rude behavior such as children talking back to parents, acting out and/or displaying hyper activity can occur too. In addition, if "most" of the windows are larger in size than the doors, children can become defiant, get their way and/or ignore their parent's wisdom altogether.

The most important YIN room in the house is your bedroom. It’s a sanctuary for rest, sleep, play, dress and for your dreams. Question: I am confused about sources that offer conflicting information about one's favorable direction. Some say one should always face this direction and others say to have the favorable direction behind you (for support). What is your opinion, and why is there a discrepancy?

Answer: This is a very good question! There is a big division among masters on this subject. Unlike my peers, I actually integrate two different philosophies. With the classical school, called EIGHT MANSIONS, I honor the best "vision" (facing) direction, as the eyes are receptors that change the neurotransmitters in the brain. In other words, they take in light... ENERGY... thus the direction one "faces" empowers and supports them, when the eyes are open. However, when it comes to best supporting one's health, sleep or rest (burial) direction, I honor Form School Feng Shui (the direction the top of the head-hair faces) for life support.

When it comes to the classical school of LO-SHUI FLYING STARS, I honor the "sitting" direction over the facing direction (which many teachers and masters use) in determining whether or not a house or building will support the occupants. I use this approach as it honors the classical arm chair position of FORM SCHOOL Feng Shui. The Chinese refer to these as the Celestial Animals that support and protect a property. They are the green dragon, white tiger, tortoise and phoenix.

No doubt Feng Shui can get confusing, as no two authors, consultants, teachers or masters view Feng Shui the same way. In truth, as a practicing consultant, it takes years of trial and error to determine which approach works best. Even then, in my opinion, the client ultimately dictates which school resonates best with them. For some folks, it's Classical (Eastern) Feng Shui and for others it's Western Feng Shui. Thus the greatest service one can offer students and clients is to honor, at all times, the the unique body and mind energy of the individual one serves.

QUESTION: Hi Suzee, I am planning to become an entrepreneur, but obstruction comes now and then. Please tell me how to go about it.

ANSWER: In Feng Shui, "obstructions" are usually indicative of clutter in one's work and/or living environment so you will want to make sure to space clear your home and office.

In addition to Feng Shui, one must have good work habits, a defined action or business plan and KNOWLEDGE of business and sales. Thus, I recommend reading three books that are gems. The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber, Raving Fans by Ken Blanchard, and The Little Red Book of Selling by Jeffrey Gitomer, as must reads for entrepreneurs.

QUESTION: My "office" is in a cubicle. Using the Ba-gua, do I place it with the "career" at the doorway to the cubicle or in the position where I sit INSIDE the cubicle? This is important so I know where to place items relative to the other Ba-gua centers around me.

ANSWER: Good question. I agree, this is very important to know. You place the Ba-gau over the entire cubicle "area" and Feng Shui from the entrance way of the cubicle ... or CAREER gua!

I wanted to share my experience as I have been going through your Certification course and learning a lot about Feng Shui. I have been trying to put many of the things I am learning into practice.
Last fall, my son Robert who is usually a very good student was not seeming like his usual self, somewhat out of sorts during the first quarter of the school year. I discovered as part of my studies that Robert is a west group person and his bed was facing the wrong direction in his bedroom . As you know we are also in the process of moving to a new home. We had been looking at properties somewhat passively, planning a move sometime in 2011. We have also been applying many Feng Shui principles to our current lot and home. Somewhat out of the blue we found the perfect property. A country home with a nice parcel of land. After we looked at it the first time we found out that it had an accepted offer, which was a concern for us at first, thinking there was no way for us to get this property. But my wife eventually convinced me that we should present our offer anyway. We did and within a short time found out there was yet a third offer in the mix.....not so good for us right? Well, in a matter of days we had an accepted offer on this property as the primary buyer. We were able to see many of the Feng Shui characteristics that fit us so well, we are both East Group people. Question: Is it really bad Feng Shui to have bathrooms in the health areas of your home?

Answer: No, just keep them clean, fresh and beautiful. You will also want to keep drains and toilet lids closed too.

Question: Is it OK to place my headboard next to a window?

Answer: I would not hesitate to do it IF it provides you with one of your best health directions while you sleep. However, I would also advise adding wood shutters or blinds on the window for protection and support.

Question: Do we take each room separately and apply the Ba-gua, or do we apply these principles to the house as a whole?

Answer: BOTH. You will want to Feng Shui the house first and the rooms second!

The Ba-gua

Question: If a room (bedroom) is completely outside the bagua how do I bring it into the bagua with mirrors (placed inside or outside the room) and does this change the placement of the bagua?

Answer: If a room falls outside the Ba-gua and is less than 50% or the width of the property, it is considered an "extension," and a remedy is not necessary. In Western Ba-gua Feng Shui, an extension is a PLUS as it expands the gua area it protrudes from... the opposite is true of a "missing corner. However, I would not recommend a mirror for either situation.

The Ba-gua for an apartment, condo, house or commercial building never changes unless "major" reconstruction is done to the property. If a "remodel" is done in a different construction period than the original property, then a separate Ba-gua is required for the "addition." Before or after a remodel, you may want to call our office for a ONE hour phone consultation to review, remedy and/or enhance your property. Also, a phone or email "Yeah/Nay" consultation is recommended prior to purchasing "any" property.

Question: I live in a split foyer house and the first thing you see when you come up the stairs is the kitchen. What do I need to do? I have been told the kitchen should not be the first thing to see when you enter a house?

Answer: You can add a tall plant, Asian screen or furniture between the entrance door and kitchen, to slow down and to redirect Chi... energy.

Question: My wife and I are having a friendly dispute in our kitchen about keeping a nice set of kitchen knives out on the counter. I cook a lot and find it convenient to have them out and always within reach for chopping vegetables etc. She maintains that it is bad Feng Shui and the knives should be put away behind cupboard doors. I argue that our kitchen has been full of good energy and happiness for years and it is much more convenient to have them out on the counter. What would be the opinion of a Feng Shui expert?

Answer: From a Feng Shui perspective it is bad Feng Shui to leave knives exposed. However, I'm smiling because in my city home I have the knives put away, and in my mountain home I have them out on the counter. So, I'm probably not the best Feng Shui consultant to ask!

The reason for hiding knives is strictly based on health and SAFETY. So, if you are a family that is in balance, and are just having a "friendly dispute," and/or do not live in a high risk (crime) area, then you should be fine either way. Nonetheless, you will want to trust your gut on this one!

Question: Where is the gua area of my home?

Answer: "Typically" a house has 9 gua areas, and 9 gua areas divide each room inside a house as well. You can learn how to use the Ba-gua (9 gua areas) correctly in our FENG SHUI EMPOWERMENT program.

Question: Hi Suzee, I am hunting for a house. There is this house with its back facing a temple, is it bad Feng Shui?

Answer: It depends if it's a Jewish synagogue or Buddhist temple. The former is like a church; it has happy and sad events that take place within - so lots of emotions can create Sha Chi. Thus the Chinese believe it is not good Feng Shui to live within a mile of a religious or sad facility ... like a cemetery.

A Buddhist temple, on the other hand, is about philosophy not religion. One can actually feel energized living next to or near a Temple such as this - as they are usually built on mountain tops or located in high energy vortexes.

Question: What is the correct location of the LOVE/ROMANCE section according to my BAGUA for my bedroom if I'm facing inside the door it's the upper right hand corner, correct?

Answer: You are correct! It is the upper right hand corner when using the Western Ba-gau approach to Feng Shui.

Question: Good afternoon, In what area of the house do Christian Religious icons go to? Thank you.

Answer: The best placement is in the SPIRITUALITY and/or HEALTH and FAMILY gua areas of the house; however, hallways and bathrooms can be utilized as well. The only exception to the above is within the sacred space of one's master bedroom and bath!

Answer: Green is GOOD for your type of business, as long as you also add FIRE to lift the energy on your home page. Without fire ... there will be little to no sales!

Bed & Sleep Alignment

Question: I am searching for a remedy to correct the position of head placement while sleeping to no avail. I am a west person, and my head faces east while sleeping. I have no other bed arrangements for my room to correct this. Are there any remedies for this? I would appreciate any help or tip you can give.

Answer: The human body is like a compass that is constantly trying to align with compatible energy in the Universe. Based on an ancient math calculation, each human being has 4 "Empowering" and 4 "Depleting" ENERGY directions. When we honor our best directions at work, at play, at study, and during sleep, our body is able to replenish and re-energize itself.

A simple solution to your situation, is to sleep at the opposite end of the bed at night, which would be West! However, it's advisable to place an Asian screen, furniture and/or a pillow behind your head to protect you while you sleep, if you are exposed to open space. Question: I have been told that when you are in bed lying down and your feet are directly pointing at the door it is bad for that person or a 'death position.' Can you enlighten me about the good/bad of having your feet point this way? If it is bad, how can this be remedied if the bed must remain in its current position?

Answer: You are correct; it is not considered "healthy" or "safe" Feng Shui. This is referred to as the "coffin" position. If possible, try to move the bed to one side of the room out of direct alignment with your bedroom door. You will also want to keep the door closed when you sleep to slow down chi...energy.

Answer: If you are a family, you will want to enhance the HEALTH & FAMILY GUA area of your apartment. If you are a couple, enhance the PARTNERSHIP & MARRIAGE. Do this along with the SPIRITUALITY & KNOWLEDGE gua area so that you make a wise and informed decision on the right property to buy.

Question: My stove is gas and is in the North West. Any cure besides moving it?

Answer: You have nothing to worry about, you are reading/learning (superstitious) Chinese beliefs. If you are worried, set the INTENTION that your life and home are in perfect balance and harmony.

Question: I am designing my kitchen for a new house and the only place for the oven, microwave and warming drawer is next to the refrigerator. Is this good Feng Shui?

Answer: The elements Fire and Water this close to each other in a kitchen is not good, healthy or safe Feng Shui.

Question: If you were building a new home, what would be better? 1 or 2 story? My client is looking at 4,000 SF

Answer: The environment, location of the property, the shape of the lot and the floor plan are what matters the most!

Feng Shui Wind Chimes

Answer: You DO NOT want to place a wind chime inside a home; it's both tasteless and useless. Wind chimes were used inside homes in China, in ancient times, because they were flimsy houses and the wind could blow through them, creating sound which moves Chi... ENERGY. Moving metal is a cure we use in Classical Feng Shui to remedy a difficult energy pattern called 2/5. Unfortunately, many books and schools recommend wind chimes inside houses... this is due to lack of understanding the original intention behind its use. Aside from this, a dangling wind chime or flute inside a home is the antithesis of good Feng Shui... an environment of harmony, grace, balance and aesthetic beauty.

"less" will free you from struggle, conflict & stuckness; it will also open up new pathways of opportunity and abundance.

The Number Nine and Feng Shui

TRUTH: Nine enhances any number it is with, thus it is the most important number of all.

The number 8, to the Chinese, represents present money and wealth. The number 9 represents future money – continued wealth and abundance.

If you have space available for a fish pond outside or an aquarium inside, add 9 goldfish or Koi/Carp, of which 8 should be red and gold and 1 black. (multi-colors are fine for salt water aquariums) The purpose of the one black fish is that it will attract all that is negative or undesirable. Do not worry if a fish dies. It is believed that the fish that dies absorbs "bad luck" intended for one of the occupants. Black represent “Career” and gold, red & reflective colors represent “Fame and Fortune”. Which do you think is more important to the Chinese - career or fame and fortune?

TIP: DO NOT keep fish in the following areas: bathrooms, bedrooms (2 gold fish are okay), or kitchen as the belief is they will create material loss.

INTENTION: My good Reputation precedes me wherever I go in life. I am a Magnet for Fame, Fortune and Wealth!

Feng Shui and Space Clearing

QUESTION: I moved into a house 10 months ago,and feel like i don't know where to start or what to do downstairs. I have boxes and clutter and I'm starting to hate this house because of it. I'm feeling negative about my whole life... I need advice on what to do!

ANSWER: Once you declutter your environment, you will start to feel better and begin to regain your center. Try to view this as an opportunity to let go of "things" that no longer nurture, enhance or enrich your soul. Start with one box at a time... a day at a time.

Space clearing an environment can bring up a lot of emotions... ranging from exhilaration and freedom to anxiety, anger, stress, tears, and/or fatigue. So be kind to yourself. The goal is to create an environment that supports harmony, peace and balance. Sometimes the emotions we pick up in an environment are not even our own, so I also suggest cleansing everything thoroughly (cabinets, drawers, walls, floors, carpet, window coverings etc.) before you begin to unpack. Consciously cleanse away the old, this will allow Chi... life force energy... into your home and heart. It is also a wonderful way to start off the New Year... right!

Western Feng Shui

QUESTION: I have a question regarding Feng Shui in the United States. I read in a Feng Shui book or article that if your front door is facing (for example) east in the US that since Feng Shui is basically an "eastern" (China) science that everything in your house would be opposite. Such as if your bedroom would be best in a southeast corner then in America it should put in the opposite area, which would be northwest. Is that correct, or would Feng Shui be the same as far as direction for anywhere the world - which means if your bed should be in the southeast corner according to your Feng Shui "chart" then it would be in the southeast corner anywhere in the world?

ANSWER: This is a very good question. I know Feng Shui can get VERY confusing as no two consultants, authors or masters see, view or do Feng Shui the same way. Some Feng Shui peers believe Kua numbers change in the Southern Hemisphere. I personally do not agree with this approach - but it does not mean it doesn't work, as I believe too, that a Feng Shui consultant's INTENTION and commitment to his or her belief is powerful enough to change energy. I also believe a client's faith and trust (or lack thereof) in their consultant (or favorite book) also dictates the quality and degree of Feng Shui results one will, or will not, experience.

Irrespective of the approach you decide to take, it's important to keep in mind that each Element (person) has 4 Empowerment directions that support them, and 4 that do not, this applies to gua areas of one's home as well. So the answer, regardless of your election, is not so cut and dry. Also, your question governs ONE school of Feng Shui only. I believe in the integration of schools, and that many layers and/or approaches are not only necessary, but also paramount to the creation of good Feng Shui!

Feng Shui Bagua vs. Directions

Question: I've been studying on my own, and want to know if you believe more strongly in the bagua or directions when Feng Shui'ng a home or property FOR SALE. For example, the bagua says career should line up with your front door but what if the front door is in the south? You are not supposed to put water in the southern area for career. Is this when you would use direction within that particular room to add the water feature in the "career" area and not the house as a whole?

Answer: I differ with most books and consultants in this regard, as I use Western Ba-gua Feng Shui "without" directions associated with it. When selling a house, REALTORS are taught to use the Ba-gua based on the front door as that is where buyers enter property. In regards to your personal home, you will want to Feng Shui from your main access entry, which could be the garage door, kitchen door, side door or front door. In addition, if you work from a home based office - I would double insure and also lift the Chi at the front door, no matter where your main entrance door is located. I believe you will find this approach less confusing and the results more dynamic.

Feng Shui in a Bedroom-Office

Question: My home office is upstairs in a portion of my bedroom, as I have no extra room. How can I Feng Shui this room to bring me better chi and results with money?

Answer: An office is saturated with Electromagnetic pollution. You can put a band-aid on the situation by adding a wood or Asian screen between your work area and bed, however, Sha Chi will end up moving above, below, around and through it. Our health is the most precious commodity we possess and the one most people give the least consideration to, until a crisis happens. The last place one should work from is their bedroom, where balanced energy and "undisturbed" rest is needed to rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit.

Besides the above health reasons for not working from your bedroom, it is also the antithesis of good Feng Shui to do so. It shows the world that you come from scarcity-poverty consciousness and thus the Universe cannot mirror back all that you are worth. I suggest you find another area/room in your house to place your office, or consider moving... yourself. Until then, at least protect your health with an EMF Feng Shui Protection pendant.

Answer: There are no two consultants that will tell you the same thing regarding the answer to your question. In my opinion the "unseen" energy (based on exact compass degrees) dictates where water is required inside a home. For example, in a "reversed" house you would want to place an aquarium as close to the back of the house as possible, provided the gua area did not call for FIRE as a remedy.

Regardless what kind of house you occupy, I would avoid placing a large body of water (big fish tank over 25 gallons) in bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. TRUTH: SIZE matters in more ways than one! :)

The size of your entrance door is important. It should be proportionate to your house and the doors within the house should be proportionate to the rooms inside the house. If a door is too small, it will not allow enough GOOD energy to enter and circulate. This will diminish the occupants chances of health, wealth and happiness. To remedy this situation hang artwork high to lift Chi.

If a door is proportionately too large, then too much Chi... energy... will enter and overwhelm the occupants. In this scenario, no matter how much wealth or luck enters, the house will not be able to contain good fortune. To remedy this situation, place a heavy metal object near the door such as a sculpture, or hide metal plates in a pot under a plant.

TIP: Keep in mind that in Feng Shui everything in one's environment is a METAPHOR for what is happening, or what may not be happening in one's life or career. I believe INTENTION, the fourth realm of energy, can supersede the worst Feng Shui!

The opposite is true, however, of the interior environment. Too much of the WOOD element is VERY difficult on one's health; it's especially hard on Earth, Water and Metal element people. Most homes and offices are over dominant on the Wood element. Thus it's important to think twice before adding wood floors, as the Wood element already exists in furniture, cabinets and plants!

TRUTH: A thorn can be a positive or negative in Feng Shui!

Thorns represent the FIRE element. In your garden, plants with thorns in the "Fame and Fortune" gua represent a perfect placement, such as cactus, rose bushes, bougainvillea and other plants with thorns. The opposite is true of thorny plants and vines located in the "Partnership/Marriage", "Friendly Relations/Benefactors" , "Health/Family", "Wealth" and "Career" gua areas of the land. Be mindful of your garden, for the placement of a simple plant may cause you a thorn-in-the-side in a correlating area of your life!

TIP: Roses are perceived as flowers of love even though they have thorns, whereas a cactus is not perceived as warm and loving. Therefore it’s not the thorn that is negative energy, but rather our perception of the thorn. TRUTH: A balanced garden honors 5 Elements!

There are five elements in Feng Shui – FIRE, EARTH, METAL, WATER and WOOD. In a garden, the FIRE element can be a fire pit, barbecue, tiki torches, cactus, rose bushes, sunflowers or objects with jagged edges. Earth is bountiful in a garden – it’s located everywhere. Metal can be patio furniture, wind chimes, and/or metallic objects and fences. The Water element can be anything from a Jacuzzi to a fountain. Wood of course includes plants, shrubs, trees, grass and flowers growing in the Earth. You will want to make sure to honor the Ba-gua blueprint when placing the five elements in your garden!

TIP: If you have only a balcony or deck, you can declare it your garden. If room is limited, you can also use colors that represent the five elements instead of the items and plants mentioned above. Question: I am confused about sources that offer conflicting information about one's favorable Feng Shui Power Directions. Some say one should always face this direction and others say to have the favorable direction behind you (for support). What is your opinion, and why is there a discrepancy?

Answer: This is a very good question! There is a big division among masters on this subject. Unlike my peers, I actually integrate two different philosophies. With the classical school, called EIGHT MANSIONS, I honor the best "vision" (facing) direction, as the eyes are receptors that change the neurotransmitters in the brain. In other words, they take in light... ENERGY... thus the direction one "faces" empowers and supports them, when the eyes are open. However, when it comes to supporting one's health, sleep or rest (burial) direction, I honor Form School Feng Shui (the direction the top of the head-hair faces) for life support.

When it comes to the classical school of LO-SHU FLYING STARS, I honor the "sitting" direction over the facing direction (which many teachers and masters use) in determining whether or not a house or building will support the occupants. I use this approach as it honors the classical arm chair position of FORM SCHOOL Feng Shui. The Chinese refer to this as Celestial Animals that support and protect property. They are the green dragon, white tiger, tortoise and phoenix.

No doubt Feng Shui can get confusing, as no two authors, consultants, teachers or masters view Feng Shui the same way. In truth, as a practicing consultant, it takes years of trial and error to determine which approach works best. Even then, in my opinion, the client ultimately dictates which school resonates best with them. For some folks, it's Classical (Eastern) Feng Shui and for others it's Western Feng Shui. Thus the greatest service one can offer students and clients is to honor, at all times, the unique body and mind energy of the individual one serves.

Answer: Please keep in mind that there is more than one school of Feng Shui, and that placing value in just one approach can be not only frustrating, but also stressful and frightening. You do not need to keep your front door open, nor do you need to worry about the 5 Yellow Star... bad energy coming in. The most important thing is for you to enjoy your home without fear, doubt or worry. For starters, you can do this by simply balancing the five elements in your environment and by removing clutter.

Question: My backyard is a triangle shape, narrow in the back and very wide in the front. I was told not to put up a fence, but my neighbors on both sides are putting fences up. What should I do?

Answer: Feng Shui is an Earth art and science. Thus a lot shaped like this typically means you have the ability to pull money into your life, but not necessarily the ability to keep or grow it. BEST Health and Sleep Directions

Question: My daughter 8 years has Asperger's. She has epilepsy too and is very unhealthy. I want to use the Feng Shui for her bedroom. I am using the Bagua directions, Can I use a regular compass?

Answer: Yes you can use a regular compass to determine directions. You will also want to make sure that your daughter's headboard (the top of her head) is facing one of her 4 favorable directions, preferably her baby sleep-health-direction. In addition, her room should be minimalistic in furnishings with soft colors and decor items. DO NOT use primary colors in her room... as her brain and body cells need to relax and rejuvenate.

The Five Elements can be brought into an environment using pastel shades of the element... for example: FIRE can be pink, lavender, dusty rose, peach and/or mauve. It's also important to balance the five elements in her room as well. I also recommend an EM pendant for her to wear during the day, and a Clear Wave clock in her bedroom to shield her from radiation. From a "classical" Feng Shui perspective, each number represents a specific element.

Number 1 is the element WATER
Number 2 is the element EARTH
Number 3 is the element WOOD
Number 4 is the element WOOD

Number 7 is the element METAL
Number 8 is the element EARTH

Feng Shui in the Bedroom

Question: If a room (bedroom) is completely outside the bagua how do I bring it into the bagua with mirrors (placed inside or outside the room) and does this change the placement of the bagua?

Answer: If a room is outside the Ba-gua then it is considered an "extension" of that gua area. Mirrors are not necessary. An extension is a GOOD thing in Feng Shui as it expands the gua area it protrudes from, thus it does not require a remedy. Enjoy the blessings it brings you!

Question: What is the best color to paint my bedroom?

Answer: Believe it or not, there is no easy or single correct answer to this question. In Feng Shui the goal is to balance 5 elements in every room. To paint all walls of a room "one" color throws the other four elements out of balance. An accent wall can be fine as long as the room in the house does not call for the opposite element/color!

Thus I believe it's best to play safe and leave sleep areas soft and neutral, ranging from any shade of white or off white, to a tone of beige. If color is important to you, you can also use a pastel shade on the wall, or add your favorite color through decor items such as window coverings, bedspread, pillows, throws, candles, and/or artwork. The ultimate goal in a bedroom, is to create a balanced environment (elementally) that allows your body energy to benefit from a peaceful nights rest.

TRUTH: Most of what you think Feng Shui is... IS NOT!

Crystal balls, frogs, Fu dogs, dragons, turtles, laughing Buddhas, special pebbles, red envelopes, flutes, immortal figurines (Fuk, Luk & Sau), Ba-gua mirrors, coins, red streamers etc. are part of Chinese tradition and culture, not Feng Shui. The Chinese, by nature, are superstitious people and believe objects and icons bring good or bad fortune.

Belief is a powerful dynamic. Thus objects & icons that belong to the Chinese culture, can bring peace, faith and even good fortune to those who believe in them. However to other cultures and religions, often times the opposite is true.

TIP: Less than 10% of the Chinese population in China, believe or practice any form of religion… not even Buddhism!
